West Coast ATC
has an exciting new experience in store for those who enjoy
low level VFR flying. Many of you have flown the VFR hop
series that have been available on the 24 hour servers.
To date, these have basically laid out a series of 5 to 10
individual point to point legs of a geography for you to
fly. However, have you ever wondered about what you're
flying over, curious about what’s really down there, does it have
a name, is there any history associated with it? Well, if
you are one of the curious, then we've got some good news
for you. In mid November, we will be launching the “Explorer
Hop Series” on
the 24 Hr. No. 3 Server with plans to expand to the other
24 Hr Servers running at West Coast ATC.
The “Explorer Hop Series” will be more than just a series
of point to point legs to fly. In addition to seeing the wonderful
sights from your cockpit as you fly your leg destinations,
you will learn something about the terrain that you are flying
over, perhaps something about it’s history or perhaps
something about the people who live there.
With each of these
new hops, there will be an associated document that you
will need to download. This document will have your fight
instructions as well as information about each leg of the
flight. These are not just point to point flights as you
will need to navigate each leg as instructed in each specific
hop list documentation (below). When we retire an explorer
hop list all pilots who have successfully completed the
adventure will be credited with flight time. To
increase your enjoyment, you may want to install any recommended
scenery enhancements that are noted in the hop document.
As
noted above, this new program will be placed on 24 Hr.
No. 3 Server. We will keep this particular
hop open for three months and encourage all to give it a
try. We look forward to your feedback to see what areas to
expand to. There are many
exciting places in our world in which to fly and explore.
